Happy 8th Birthday Griffen!

My big guy is now the big 8! I can't believe how quickly time has flown by....I'll probably post those same words every single year but it is so true. Each year he has changed so much and has become quite an amazing little boy. I am so proud of all of his accomplishments from excelling in reading this year to his improvements in sports. He is also quite a fantastic big brother and knows how much Knox looks up to him and follows his example. I can't express in words how wonderful it is to be his mom.
Me: "I love you more than the whole wide world".
Griffen: "I love you more than the milky way".

Enough with the mushy stuff!

This year Griffen wanted a movie night for his birthday and so he got it! There were a total of 21 kids at the house, which was more than we imagined we would have so it was pretty crazy.
Instead of our usual ice cream cake Griffen chose cake pops this year. For his classroom party I made lego head cake pops and they were a hit. For the house party I made cake pops that looked like popcorn to go along with the movie theme. We also set up a "concession stand" with waters, a candy bar where the kids could choose the candy they wanted for the movie, and popcorn. The movie of the evening was "The Muppets".
All of the kids had a good time and most importantly Griffen did!
When I wasn't in the room Giffen told Matt that this was the best birthday party he had ever had and having it at home was the most fun. Awww I was so happy to hear it!

Happy Birthday Griffen!

Griffen gets to join scouts this year! Thank you Grandma and Papa Demiter!

The face says it all.....he got a new bike!

Birthday Baseball Game

We celebrated Griffen's birthday party on April 21st and that morning he also had a game. On this particular day I think he was more interested in packing his cheek with seeds than keeping his mind in the game. However, he still played well and had a great time. That's all that matters when you are 8!

A cheek full of seeds!
Good eye!

Heading home!

Tulips.....and lots of them!

Tulips are my favorite flowers so I was itching to go to the Tulip Festival. The weather was warm and the sun was shining so it was the perfect weekend to take a mini road trip north to Mt. Vernon.

Knox loved smelling the flowers. Each time he saw a new one he would run up, smell it, and then smile.
We found ourselves at RoozenGaarde which is the largest distributor of tulip bulbs in the United States. There were thousands and thousands of tulips and I just couldn't decide which ones I liked best. We made sure to grab a catalog so we could order plenty to plant this fall.

I couldn't resist grabbing a photos that showed the blue sky with the mountains in the background and of course some beautiful tulips!
After we left Mt. Vernon we took a side trip to La Connor which is small town right on the coast. Knox was tired so we decided not to get out and walk around but we decided that it would definitely be a destination for a day this summer!

Peewee Baseball Season!

This is Griffen's 5th baseball season! He has come a long way from picking dandelions in the field to being called "the green monster" when he is up to bat.
This marks the first year that kids pitch to each other. Griffen did get hit in the back by a ball during his first game but luckily it didn't scare him and he had no problem stepping back up to the batter's box.
He has been rotating through different positions so that he has the opportunity to try new things and this also gives the coach and idea of where his strengths and weaknesses lie. He even had the opportunity to pitch during his last game and struck out a few kids. I was so proud of him!
We are looking forward to an exciting season and praying that the weather stays on our side. You never know what spring will bring when you live in the Pacific Northwest!

Easter....including a hunt!

Sacrament meeting was beautiful. The speakers retold the story of Jesus' final days leading up to his crucifixion and then his resurrection. These stories always remind me that we have so much to be thankful for.
After arriving home Knox went down for his afternoon nap and I went to work filling eggs for the hunt. Sadly Griffen was away this year for Easter so we only had 1 little person to seek out the Easter eggs. We really lucked out with the weather and had a gorgeous day. Most years we have to hide eggs inside but this year we were outside and it was so nice.

He wanted the chocolate, wrapper and all!

Checking out what he received in his basket.

Knox loved his basket and was so excited about the candy. He threw an egg and when it popped open and he discovered candy inside it started to throw each egg he found. He is truly a Demiter with a chocolate addiction!
