Out of the mouths of babes....

Griffen: Can I shoot a deer?
Matt: You don't have a license.
Griffen: That's ok, I don't need a certificate I think I'm good enough.

Bee Swarm

While Matt was at Scout Camp with Griffen I happened to look out the bonus room window to see a sheet of bees. There was nothing but massive bees as high and wide as I could see. I ended up calling the apiary and Jim told me it could possibly be a swarm.
When Matt came home from camp he checked the hives and noticed that one was definitely lacking some bees. He happened to look up and straight above his head about 30 ft. up in the maple tree were his bees.
It was a meeting of minds to figure out how to get the bees down. The Farmer's came over to assist. Matt originally tried to climb the tree, which was quite a site and made me very nervous. He couldn't get high enough so a new plan was devised. He used a fishing pole and cast the line with a heavy weight so that it would go over the branch and he could knock the swarm to the ground. After many attempts he was successful at getting the line to the correct branch.

The next step was to find the queen and get her back in the hive so that her colony would follow. On the 3rd try Matt was able to find her and get her back into the hive. After inquiring with Quinton it was decided that he should place her in a queen cage. During this venture he accidentally squish her....oh no!

Pretty little maids all in a row.

The bees are back in the hive without a queen but Matt will be adding one soon and the plan is that the colony will welcome her with open arms.

There's a scout in the house

Griffen knew that when he turned 8 he would be able to join Cub Scouts and was so excited. The week before his 8th birthday he attended his first meeting. Each time he comes home on a Wednesday evening he talks about all of the cool things he has learned and how much fun he has. I love it!
On 6/20/12 Griffen had his first pack meeting and received his bobcat patch. Matt and Griffen had dilligently been working in his scout book so that he can reach the requirements needed. There was a nice ceramony to present his patch and Griffen was able to present me with a pin as well. Griffen was so proud and it was a great accomplishment for him.

The week of 6/25/12 Griffen complete his first Scout Day Camp at Flowing Lake in Snohomish. On Thursday which was the final day he said, "I don't want camp to ever be over!". He got to build a bug house and bird house, learn about reptiles, make fires, shot a bow and arrow, shot a rifle BB gun, and did so many other activities. Griffen's final words of the week regarding scouting "How long will it take to get my Eagle Scout?".
We are so proud of Griffen and can't wait to see all the patches he plans to earn!

Out of the mouths of babes....

Me: Griffen you need to clean up your room and make sure to fold your blankets.
Griffen: I don't know how and girls are supposed to do the folding anyways!
Me: Excuse me mister but dads also help with the folding so you better learn how!

WA state Republican Convention

It is an election year and I decided early on that I was going to do my part, educate myself, and get involved. My Patriarchal Blessing even talks about educating myself regarding politics....this part is finally coming into play.
I have spent a lot of time reading up on issues and candidates in order to determine who I believe is best suited to be our next President and those who should hold local positions. Matt thinks I need to seek help for my Fox News addiction. Haha very funny!
I attended our local caucus this year and then was chosen as a delegate for the county convention. It was a long grueling day and I wasn't sure I wanted to do it again. However, I was elected as an alternate and a few weeks before the state convention I was bumped to delegate status. I couldn't decide if I really wanted to go because I would be away from the boys overnight. Matt knew I was really excited about the opportunity and prompted me to go.
I am so glad I did because it was a wonderful experience! I could definitely see the hard work that so many have put into Republican party at the grass roots level. Being surrounded by such dedicated people really increased my drive to become more involved.
I will not be attending the national convention this year.....who knows....maybe in 4 more years!

Happy Mother's Day

Mother's Day was wonderful this year! Matt surprised me with my early present, a Kindle Fire! He was on shift for Mother's day so he could be with us. The boys and I went to church and I always get a little teary eyed on Mom's day because all of the children sing to us during sacrament.
Griffen made me the sweetest necklace and I wore it all day long.

Another little Demiter!

On May 4th Matt and I were ecstatic to learn that we are expecting another healthy little boy! There was no questioning if this was a boy or girl once we saw his "bits and pieces" on the screen.

I love having my boys and can't wait to meet this next one! It has been a lot of fun starting the decorating process for the room that Knox and Trig will share.
